Every effort is made to keep the cost of the Junior Year in France as low as rising prices and foreign exchange rates permit.

Fees

The fees for 2009-2010 are $36,700 for the full year, $19,400 for the fall semester, and $20,050 for the spring semester. The fees for 2010-2011 will be announced in February 2010 and will depend on the exchange value of the dollar at the time. This fee will then be guaranteed and will not be subject to increases or rebates arising from exchange rate fluctuations.

The fee will cover:

  • In Tours (for full-year and fall semester students): room and demi-pension (breakfast and dinner) for approximately two weeks; in Paris: room for approximately eight months (for full-year students), or four and a half months (for spring semester students); breakfast seven days a week and dinner six days a week, except during Christmas and Spring vacations; excursions to Loire Valley châteaux, Mont Saint-Michel (for full-year and fall semester students), trip to the South of France, Versailles (for full-year and spring semester students), and several social events.

The fee does not include travel insurance, passport or visa fees, or excess baggage.

  • Personal liability and medical insurance while abroad.

Other Expenses

The following is the 2009-2010 estimate of expenses not included in the fee (excluding vacation travel, telephone bills and major purchases). Calculated in June, 2009 (1€ = $1.40):

Expenses Year Semester
Meals not included in fee $5,400 $3,000
Books and academic supplies $700 $350
Public transportation in Tours and Paris $720 $450
Passport, photographs, visa, residency permit fee, etc. $350 $350
Personal expenses $4,500 $2,500
Total $11,670 $6,650

As a convenience to parents, Sweet Briar College has made arrangements with Academic Management Services to facilitate payment terms. Information about this payment plan is available from the Junior Year in France office.

Some colleges and universities will collect fees for the Junior Year in France and forward them to the Virginia office. Their schedule of payments may be slightly different from the above. They may add various fees payable by students away for the year in order for them to remain enrolled.
