Program of Study: June 2 - July 2, 2008

Requirements

  • College sophomore, junior, or senior

  • Completed college Intermediate French

  • Minimum 2.75 gpa in French

Courses Offered in French - 4-6 Credit Hours

Taught by native French professors who are affiliated with the SBC JYF Year program

  • Advanced Composition and Conversation

  • Culture and Civilization - History of Paris through its monuments

  • Art History: 19th & 20th Century

  • Cinema *

  • * SBC JYF has the right to cancel the Cinema course if fewer than 6 students enroll in the course.

Fees

$5800 (two courses - 4 credit hours)

or

$6200 (three courses - 6 credit hours)

Will Cover:

  • Tuition for 4 or 6 credit hours

  • Private room in host family

  • Demi-pension (breakfast 7 days a week and dinner 5 days a week)

  • Medical insurance

  • USA telephone card

  • Métro card for one month

  • Excursions and site visits in Paris

  • Welcome to Paris reception; Farewell dinner

NOT Included:

  • Round-trip airfare

  • Books and academic supplies

  • Ground transportation to and from airport

  • Personal expenses

Financial Arrangements

Checks in payment of the overall fee are to be made payable to Sweet Briar College Junior Year in France and sent to the Sweet Briar College JYF office in accordance with the following schedule:

Upon acceptance - $500.00
By May 15 - Balance of fee

Refunds

Refunds are made only for emergency or medical reasons:

Withdrawal prior to 5/20 - 1/2 of payment
Withdrawal after 5/20 - No refund

Excursions

  • Bateau Mouche trip along the Seine River

  • Picnic in the Jardin du Luxembourg

  • Guided tour of Versailles Castle

  • Overnight trip to city of Tours in the Loire Valley

  • Visit of castle in the Loire Valley

  • Le Louvre, le Musée d'Orsay

Application for Summer Program

Applications are accepted from sophomores, juniors or seniors who have completed the Intermediate college level of French with a 2.75 gpa in French.

Application for admission to the Junior Year in France Summer Program is made on the official form available at any of the following sources:

  • A form may be obtained from your college/university study abroad office or French department.

  • You can download the form as a pdf document by clicking here.

  • To have a form mailed to you, please contact the Director of Junior Year in France at Sweet Briar College:

Students are urged to submit their completed application no later than April 15th, 2008. Students will be informed of acceptance as soon as possible. Late applications will be considered on a space-available basis.

There is a $50 non-refundable application fee. This fee is waived for students from institutions having special affiliation agreements with the Sweet Briar College Junior Year in France.
